Southern Samity is an Indian professional multi-sports club from Kolkata. Founded in 1945, apart from sports, we are also involved in numerous social and cultural activities. Our men’s football team competes in the Calcutta Football League premiere division and has also previously participated in the I-League 2nd Division, then the second tier of the Indian football league system. Our women’s football team competes in the Calcutta Women’s Football League, also known as the Kanyashree Cup.
Southern Samity was founded in the city of Kolkata in 1945, during British rule in India. During that time, we were involved in various sporting and cultural activities. In 1959, the club got its affiliation from the Indian Football Association (IFA). Established in the year 1945 by the Maharaja of Burdwan, Sri Uday Chand Mahakab, our club entered the football arena in 1959 and became champions in the "Bengal Soccer League" in 1961. Also, our club entered the field of volleyball and continued to be the state knockout champions as well as the state league champions in consecutive years.
